That’s all I can stand, I can’t stands no more.

Growing up in good old fashioned Brady Bunch watching, hungry man television dinner eating,  strawberry pop tart snacking, Atari video game playing, OP reversible surfer vest and Hawaiian print Van’s shoe wearing America, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that the dream was actually a freaking nightmare. Little did I know I would spend the good part of my life after leaving college to eradicate and oftentimes try my very best to exorcise from my psyche the very up bringing and culture social conditioning that I so trusted and relied upon.

Its all a joke.

All of it. Seriously. Do we really want to end our lives with someone presiding over our coffin reading out loud the highlights of our life as if he or she was reading a job resume. I certainly do not. I suppose I am the odd one out.

But growing up one of my favorite childhood cartoons was Popeye and the Family Film Festival with Tom Hatten. I loved Popeye, I suppose that might have partially influenced my decision to become a vegetarian, I mean this guy, named Popeye, would bust out and eat a can of spinach and then kick some serious whoop @#$. I loved it. My all time favorite expression was when Popeye reached his limit, he would say, That’s all I can stand, I can’t stands no more!

Well you know what, I need to break out my own  a can of spinach, because, I reached my limit, That’s all I can stand, I can’t stands no more!

I have realized that settling for a life less than one deserves is downright tragic, and as I begin the upward ascent towards living the life I always wanted I will be sure to pack  some cans of spinach so that I can kick some serious whoop !@# on the status quo.

Don’t get me wrong, life is not that bad, I mean I live a pretty great life, and yet, I am constantly challenging the limits and so it is.

Time for change.

The Power to Positively Change Anything

One of the most vitally important components to instilling long-lasting positive change is to ensure that you have the right social influences around you. How can you improve the quality of your life in any area?

The Fisherman

An American consultant was at a pier in a coastal Mexican village when a boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the boat were several large yellow-fin tuna. The American complimented the fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The fisherman replied only a little while.

The consultant then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish?

The fisherman said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs.

The American then asked the fisherman how he spent the rest of his time.

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life, señor.”

The American consultant scoffed, “I am business consultant and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and, with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a  middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution.

“You would need to leave this coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then Los Angeles, and eventually New York City where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But señor, how long will this all take?”

To which the American consultant replied, “15-20 years.” “But what then, señor?” asked the fisherman.

The consultant laughed, and said, “That’s the best part! When the time is right, you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public. You’ll become very rich, you would make millions!”

“Millions, señor?” replied the fisherman. “Then what?”

The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

Follow Your Passions, Follow Your Dreams

As I write to you from Las Vegas, Nevada, I am wondering where did all the time go. Its Spring time and I came back to the states, in truth, to make a stake here. To get a part of the so called American Dream.  (What was I thinking?) What I found was, that I was already living my dream life in Europe. I certainly don’t view coming back to the states as any type of failure or mistake, simply a lesson. A lesson that life wanted to show me. As you can imagine, there really is nothing to do in Las Vegas, albeit the climate and natural surroundings are quite spectacular this time of year. Only in July and August are really the most unbearable months to live here.

Well with so much free time on my hands, I simply did nothing. Time to simply just re-group and rejoice. I entitled this blog post, Follow Your Passions, Follow Your Dreams, because one never really knows where life will take you. I realized that the time I had was precious and trust me I used it wisely. With that being said I am on my way back to Europe, and plan on leaving in the next couple of weeks. As well as resurrecting this blog on a continuous basis.

Who knows what great adventures await me. I know that as long as I follow my passions and follow my dreams all the other stuff will work itself out, it always does.

Plato´s Allegory

The other day I read a rather interesting tale that discusses what would happen if the reality you once knew was not the reality you always thought it was. Plato´s Allegory is probably the precursor to the blockbuster hit movie, The Matrix.

As I reflect on the this, I realize that we indeed may be just sleep walking.  Or maybe not. Who actually know?

Here is the allegory,

T hree prisoners have been chained deep inside a cave for their whole life. They are chained so tightly that all they ever see or experience are the grotesque shadows cast on a wall from a fire that is burning behind them. This is the only reality they have ever known.

T hen one day, a prisoner is released. He is blinded by the light outside the cave and astonished to see a completely new reality of people, animals, and objects casting these shadows into the cave.

H e scurries back to tell the prisoners the news, but to his dismay, the prisoners do not believe his fantastic stories of the world outside of the cave. For the shadows on the wall are the only reality the prisoners have ever known, and therefore, to them, that is all that will ever exist.

Here is a great video
